So a lot of you may not know but today is World Mental Health Day and I like to take some time to talk about it. This year’s theme is psychological first aid and the support we can provide to those are going through a mental distress.
What is a mental illness?
These are disorders that affect your mood, mind and behavior. Some of these include depression, anxiety, eating disorders, addictive behaviors and schizophrenia.
One of the reasons why I support and embrace this day is because I battled my own mental illness and let me tell you it’s not easy. A lot of people don’t know how hard it is to have a mental disorder. To wake up every day with zero motivation to accomplish anything, to have a negative mind and low self esteem, to think that we’re not worth anyone’s time, that we’re a bother to everyone in this world. Things like this affect our whole life whether is social, educational, love and work. Some of these people prefer to stay locked up away from everyone, hiding their pain and fighting this battle alone. It’s hard, it really is, especially when we won’t accept that we need help to overcome this and even though some don’t want to admit it they desperately want and need some to be there for them and tell them” I care.”
So I ask all of you, if you or someone you know has or shows signs of any mental illness whatsoever please seek help. This is a battle you don’t have to face alone. It’s okay to seek help. You are strong. You are loved. You matter. You are beautiful and we are here for you. We love you and things will get better I promise. This is not the end of your story.
